Who we are
African Parasols is a proudly Zambian project started in the summer of 2017 by a team of sisters and community artisans whose desire is to continue to share and celebrate the beauty and vibrancy of African fabric.
Why parasols?
Parasols are perfect for the African tropical climate, serving as shields from the sun.
Parasols can be used for any celebratory occasions from birthdays to weddings but can also be used for casual strolls and outings with friends and family.
Company Philosophy and Culture
Our philosophy is rooted in giving back to the local community by allowing artisans to utilize and reap financial benefits from their talents.
Our Design & Manufacturing Process
We source the finest authentic high quality African fabrics to produce the African Parasol.
We travel to cities and communities in various countries including Zambia, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa in order to get the most rare and vibrant fabric that represents the particular country, region, community or culture.
Our emphasis is in providing both an ethical product as well as providing employment to artisans and craftsmen from Kitwe, where the founder of African Parasols, Florence, resides.
The wire that makes up the frame of the African Parasol is sourced from discarded industrial wire.
Our artisans take this wire, recycle it and use it to produce the frame that holds the African Parasol fabric together.
Our Staff
Our staff comprises local community tailors and artisans based in Kitwe who use their talents to bring the African Parasol project to life.
